Building on preliminary convenings in 2019 at Davos, the Bellagio Center and UNGA, over the past year, the FBVC Alliance has rapidly become a growing community of cross-sector collaboration platform between policy-makers, business leaders, technology pioneers, academics, civil society and labour leaders advancing sustainable, inclusive development through systemic transformation of global value chains.
The Alliance aims to increase the number of purpose-driven, ‘for-benefit’ enterprises in global value chains through mutually reinforcing efforts that reduce barriers and strengthen the supportive ecosystem that these types of enterprises need to succeed. (i.e. access to finance, capacity building, policy reforms, etc)
IT WORKS BY
Leveraging the purchasing power of corporations and governments, the Alliance will create large scale market demand through a for-benefit procurement practice preference. Governments, IOs, financial institutions, NGOs and other actors will in turn respond with market support / ecosystem development, such as financing, policy reforms, impact investing, consumer action, technical assistance, and other support. (e.g. State of California, 22 countries across Ibero-America, the African Development Bank, etc.).
Leveraging >US $100 Billion in aggregated purchasing power, The Alliance declares purchasing preference for for-benefits in their supply chains.
Alliance members work together to develop policy reforms, impact investing, consumer action, technical assistance, and other field-building support.

LAUNCHING THE ALLIANCE
The launch of this Alliance is driven by support from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and by partners, like Philips, Unilever, Hersey’s, BMW, Verizon, Salesforce, SAP, Accenture, KPMG, CARE Consulting, the British Academy’s Future of the Corporation programme, and the International Chamber of Commerce; who have been collaborating over the past year on actionable approaches for leveraging the power of global value chains as mechanisms for improving the state of the world.
The result of this collaboration has created a roadmap to an official launch of the Alliance during the WEF AM / Davos 2020, where champion members of the Alliance will be discussing what this effort means for their organizations, regions, and institutions.
