Transforming Business to Achieve the SDGs: What Will it Take?

April 19, 2018

Aspen Institute

Washington DC | USA

Overview:

While many of the world's leading companies and asset owners are taking clear action to align their practices and business models with the SDGs, progress needs to be accelerated exponentially. Key barriers must be overcome to create an enabling environment for companies to transform. Information and analysis of corporate sustainability performance is often hard to access and compare. Companies' efforts - or lack thereof - often go unrecognized, reducing incentives to improve sustainability performance and making it difficult to gauge and reward industry leaders. Other aspects of the ecosystem—policy, education technical assistance, and finance--are similarly weak.

How can we provide stakeholders with information, know-how, and tools they need to make better investment and business decisions, increase transparency and facilitate trust between actors in order to catalyse action and accelerate SDG delivery? How can we create an enabling policy and market environment to unlock the $12 trillion economic opportunity for for-benefit companies that pursue sustainable and inclusive business models?

This action-oriented workshop will convene senior leaders and experts from business, finance, policy, philanthropy, and development to address the opportunities and barriers associated with the transformation of business along three dimensions: within the enterprise, along the supply chain, and across the enabling ecosystem.
