Global Alliance for Life Economies Research and Innovation (GALERI)

Global Alliance for Life Economies Research and Innovation (GALERI)

First envisioned in 2022 during the G20 Indonesia and formally launched in 2023 under the G20 India, the Global Alliance for Life Economies Research and Innovation (GALERI) fosters engagement, coordination, and collaboration among governments, think tanks, academia, international organizations, philanthropy, business, civil society, and other actors to accelerate the growth of inclusive and sustainable economies. GALERI aims to create a wide space for collaborations to effectively support policymaking in G20 countries, guide global processes in developing norms, and create global public goods, particularly in research and innovation.

Envisioned during the G20 Indonesia presidency and formally launched by the G20 India presidency in 2023, the Global Alliance for Life Economies Research and Innovation (GALERI) is a global platform established to accelerate research, innovation, and coordinated action toward economic models that center social inclusion, ecological sustainability, and human wellbeing. It convenes governments, academic institutions, think tanks, international organizations, civil society, philanthropy, and business leaders to identify systemic barriers and pathways that enable Life Economies — economies designed to deliver equitable and regenerative outcomes for people and the planet.

As traditional economic paradigms struggle to address intersecting challenges such as inequality, climate degradation, and exclusion, GALERI creates space for evidence-based, integrated approaches. By fostering global research collaboration and policy engagement, it supports the design of policies, frameworks, and innovations that strengthen supportive environments for Life Economies at national, regional, and international levels.

Core Focus Areas

  • Enhancing Knowledge & Understanding:
GALERI identifies systemic hurdles — including restrictive policies and limited capital access — and supports thematic research, data sharing, and the development of frameworks that define and measure the contributions of Life Economies.

  • Promoting Engagement & Dialogue:
The initiative facilitates collaboration among decision-makers in government, finance, philanthropy, and international institutions to advance policy coherence, align development finance with sustainable development goals, and integrate Life Economy priorities into global platforms.

  • Facilitating Innovation:
By connecting stakeholders, GALERI supports the creation, coordination, and exchange of innovative regulatory approaches, financing models, and policy instruments that accelerate Life Economy development across contexts.

  • Developing Capacity:
GALERI fosters a global community of practice that enhances learning, collaboration, and implementation capacity among governments, practitioners, and ecosystem builders working to operationalize Life Economy strategies.

Outcomes

  • Strengthened global networks and knowledge ecosystems focused on Life Economy solutions.

  • Evidence-based policy recommendations integrated into national and international development agendas.

  • Enhanced capacity within public and private institutions to adopt Life Economy frameworks.
